Thanks Jared. I love this kind of slow-burn project that starts with only a desired-functionality goal, progressing to a couple months of thinking about it for an hour a week, before finally having that "ah ha" moment. I can cluster closer the bikes I'm using less, spread out the ones I'm using more - and move any on the fly. Metal tracks and bearings would have been cooler, but far more expensive, heavy and complicated than two more two-by-fours.
There is one drawback, and maybe you've already spied it. You have to do cleaner take-offs and hang-ups because the hook will move if you press it. I clamp Kath's hook in place.

Any way you could run a "third rail" to sort of sandwich the boards with the hooks? That might help them resist lifting.
true, but I'd still want to be able to move them without too much hassle.
You know what would be great? Very heavy metal hooks, so they were hard to press. And then they would sound wicked too.
